He retired from Sonoco and was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed boating and fishing. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Grace Gibson; and sister, Pat Wills. He is survived by his wife, Gladys Gibson of Newport; his children, Chris Gibson of Newport, Mickey Gibson and wife Nancy of Knoxville, Tony Gibson and wife Sheila of Newport and Terri Buttry and husband Bill of Durham, NC; brother, Earl Gibson and wife Barbara of Hartsville, SC; eight grandchildren, Rebecca, Julia and Cassidy Gibson, Jake and Michelle Buttry, Ashley Oliver, Leslie Blackwell and Courtney Tarbel; and four great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 7:00 pm Monday, April 4, 2011 in Manes Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Jim Loftis officiating. Burial will be 10:00 am Tuesday, April 5, 2011 in Resthaven Memorial Gardens. The family will receive from 5-7 pm Monday at Manes Funeral Home prior to the funeral service.
