GREENEVILLE - The search continues today for the man still missing after a weekend boating accident that killed his passenger.
The crash happened Saturday just before 7 p.m. on the Nolichucky River, about a mile above Banks Campground, when a 16-foot aluminum Grizzly with a 40-horsepower jet drive hit an overhanging tree and ran up onto the bank, according to the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency. Jonathon Caldwell, 19, of Newport, was airlifted to Johnson City Medical Center, where he died Sunday.
The boat's owner, Wesley Brad Dawson, 28, of Bybee, remains missing. Neither wore a life jacket, although jackets were found in the boat, according to the TWRA.
Authorities said a river running high and swift due to recent rains was a factor in the crash.
More details as they develop online and in Tuesday's News Sentinel.
