Joyce Mayfield Ownby Shults, age 64, of Mebane, North Carolina, formerly of Ooltewah, TN, died March 30, 2013, following a lengthy illness. She was born in the Middle Creek community of Cosby, the older of two daughters of the late Rev. James Paul Mayfield and his wife, the former Ruby Melton. She was a member of Brainerd Hill Baptist Church in Chattanooga. She was self-employed with her husband in Shults Trucking. She is survived by her husband Jim Shults, daughter Lynda Ka Ownby, sister and brother-in-law Linda and Michael Click, nieces Michelle Poole and Melynda Kimber, great-nieces and great-nephew Kyara and Brianna Kimber and C J Click-Kimber, all of North Carolina, brother-in-law Joe Shults, sister-in-law Johnny Shults, and sister-in-law and brother-in-law Jane and Mark Chambers, all of Dandridge. A private memorial service will be held in North Carolina. Memorials may be made to Fellowship Baptist Church, 2744 Maple Avenue, Burlington, North Carolina 27215.
