Reverend James Paul Mayfield, age 85, of Mebane, NC, formerly of Newport, died Wednesday, December 24, 2003, at his home in North Carolina.
He was former pastor of the Piney Grove, Riverview, Union, Holders Grove, and Cave Hill Baptist Churches.
He was preceded in death by his wife Ruby Mayfield; mother, Susie Dunn; stepfather, Charlie Dunn; father, Clarence Barnes; stepmother, Clara Barnes; sister, Fairy Dunn; and brother, Eugene Dunn.
He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Joyce and Jim Shults of Ooltewah, Tenn. and Linda and Mike Click of Haw River, NC; grandchildren, Ka Ownby, Michelle Poole, and Melynda Kimber; great-grandchildren, Kyara and Brianna Kimber and C.J. Click; brothers, Cecil Dunn of Cosby, Bill Dunn of Newport, and Ernie and Bobby Barnes of Knoxville; sisters, Margaret Roe Williamson of Cosby, Mildred Lail, and Janie Scott of Knoxville; special aunt, Vege Ownby of Newport; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at the Manes Funeral Chapel with the Rev. James Suggs and Rev. M.L. White officiating. Interment will be in the Union Cemetery. Family will receive friends Saturday evening from 7 til 9 p.m.
