SHERROD, GORDON WALLACE WALLY JR.,
went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 following a short illness. He was born February 8, 1952 in Knoxville, TN , the son of Gordon W. Sherrod and Evelyn Knott Sherrod. He graduated from Holston High School in Knoxville and Carson Newman College in Jefferson City, TN. He was a member of the Carson Newman College football team that finished second in the nation in 1972. He set a then NAIA record by starting all 43 games in his career as an Eagle. He worked many years in the insurance industry in several states and spent the late 11 years helping build Ultra, Inc. in Crestwood, KY, working alongside his brother, Dennis Sherrod. An active member of Crestwood Baptist Church, he taught Sunday School, led a discipleship group and helped with services at Friendship Manor Nursing Home. He was passionate about Prison Ministry and served faithfu lly each Wednesday. He was also a member of the Emmaus Community and served on several REC's. In past years, he had also served as a lay pastor and speaker for the United Methodist Church and served in many areas. He was a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle and friend. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and the outdoors. He is survived by his high school sweetheart, his wife of 35 years, Susan Finley Sherrod; his two children, Chip Sherrod (Kristy), of Henderson, TN and Jessica Sherrod of Louisville; brother, Dennis Sherrod (Susan) and their children, Shelby and Sawyer; sister, Pamela Brown; nephew, Dustin Pierce. Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, Crestwood Baptist Church, 6400 Sweetbay Dr., with Bill Ellis and Owen Dolen officiating, and with burial in Floydsburg Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Friday at Pearson-Ratterman Bros. Funeral Home, 12900 Shelbyville Rd. Pallbearers will be Jerry Schafer, Jeff Ramkin, Lambert Franklin, Wayne Burke, Terry Morrison, John Swi nney, Mark Norman and Jim McClelland. Honorary pallbearers are the members of the S.A.L.T. class. Donations can be made in his honor to Backside at the Track Ministries, c/o Crestwood Baptist Church, 6400 Sweetbay Dr., Crestwood, KY 40014.
