Fremont O. Plemmons of Arden died March 9, 2007, at the Oaks at Sweeten Creek.
He was born July 19, 1922, in Madison County, son of the late Osborne J. Plemmons and Lillie Mae Shelton Plemmons. He was also preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law, Calvin and Helen Plemmons; and a brother-in-law, Duane Jackson.
He was a member of the Arden First Baptist Church and a former deacon of Barker Heights Baptist Church. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the South Pacific. He was an avid fisherman and loved baseball. He was graduate of Laurel School, Blanton's Business College and Massey Technical Institute. He worked for North American Rockwell as an accountant and retired from Westinghouse in 1989.
He is survived by his wife, Juanita B. Gibson Plemmons; two daughters and their husbands, Brenda and Wayne Stepp of Hendersonville and Paulette and William Dail Jr. of St. Johns, U.S. Virgin Islands; six grandchildren, Danielle and husband, David Shepherd, of St. Joseph, Mich., Laura and husband, Greg Baxter, of Sacramento, Calif., Brandon Stepp of Hendersonville, William Dail III and wife, Angie, and Jason and wife, Terri Dail, of Raleigh, and Ryan and wife, Andrea Dail, of Fuquay-Varina; six great-grandchildren, Robert Shepherd, Mason Baxter, Joshua Dail, Victoria Dail, Samuel Dail and Luke Dail; a brother, Edward Bruce and his wife, Ingrey Plemmons, of East Flat Rock; a sister, Evelyn Jackson of Charleston, S.C.; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the WNC Veterans Cemetery at Black Mountain. The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Arden First Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Oaks at Sweeten Creek, 3864 Sweeten Creek Road, Arden, N.C. 28704 or Care Partners Health Services, 68 Sweeten Creek Road, Asheville, N.C. 28803.
