He was pastor of Grace Baptist church in Dandridge for 26 years and worked as a carpenter over 50 years. Preceded in death by parents, Henry and Octa Smith; brothers, Fred Smith and Glen Smith; sisters, Alma Smith Cole and Wilma Smith. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Martha Ann “Chubby” Smith; sons, Steve Smith and Tim Smith; daughters and sons-in-laws, Sue and Eric Foster, Carol Howard, Brenda and Scott Gann, Ann Foster and Tina Smith; son-in-law, Jeff Johnson; seventeen grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; brothers, Rev. Al Smith, Rev. Allen (Nita) Smith; sisters, Betty (John) Runion, Katharine (Melvin) Hammer, Jean (Junior) Morgan, Helen Morgan; several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 15, 2009 at Grace Baptist Church with Bro. Albert Morgan and Bro. Eddie Trent officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. Saturday evening at Grace Baptist Church.
