Mr. Oren Clark, age 80, Limestone, Tennessee, died Thursday, March 6, 2003, at the Johnson City Medical Center.
Mr. Clark was a native of Cocke County but had lived in Washington County for the last seventy years. He was the son of the late John and Arabella Bible Clark.
He was a member of Limestone United Methodist where he served as superintendent of the Sunday School Class for many years. He was also a member of the Fellowship Sunday Class and had served on the Administrative Board for many years. He was a Trustee and member of the Finance Committee.
Mr. Clark graduated from Washington College Academy in 1942 and the Memphis Aircraft School in 1944. He was a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Corp. in WWII. He worked in airplane maintenance in the Aleutian Islands off the coast of Fairbanks, Alaska.
He served on the Board of Directors of George Washington Savings and Loan Bank in Jonesborough, and was a former member of the Board of Directors of Washington College Academy. He was also a former member of the Bowmantown Ruritan Club.
Mr. Clark owned and operated Clark's Food Market for 38 years, and Clark's Restaurant for 20 years. He was a farmer and owned Circle C. Farms. He was also a builder.
Mr. Clark is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mary Lee McMackin Clark, of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Charles Saylor, Telford; two granddaughters, Susan Saylor, Jonesborough and Alice Saylor, Cleveland; one great-granddaughter, Virginia Arabella Berry, Jonesborough; three sisters, Hazel Lewis, Limestone, Reva Bishop, Troy, VA, and Iris Treadway, Telford; two brothers, Vasie Clark, Jonesborough and Edward "Buddy" Clark, Knoxville and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mr. Oren Clark will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, March 9, 2003, at the Limestone United Methodist Church with Rev. Bill Rines and Rev. Charlie Davis officiating. Mr. Clark will lie in state one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in the Fairview Cemetery.
The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, March 8, 2003, at the Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home, Jonesborough.
Pallbearers will be Tom Houston, David Houston, David Lewis, Billy Lewis, Randy Lewis, Kenneth Clark, and Larry McElyea. Honorary Pallbearers will be Carroll Huffman, Gary Royston, Wilbert Saults, Sharrell Dykes, Bill Barkley, Charles Barkley, Archie Jones, and Richie Saults.
Memorial donations may be made to Limestone United Methodist Church, 191 Opie Arnold Rd., Limestone, TN 37681.
