KATHLEEN “KATHY” CROSS SWAFFORD, age 77, of Dandridge, TN passed away Thursday morning, February 17, 2011. She was born and raised in Byrdstown (Pickett Co.) Tennessee, the daughter of the late Jesse and Pearl Crawford Cross. She was a member of the Green Hill Baptist Church and was a retired nurse from the Jefferson Co. Nursing Home after 26 years of service. Preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Robert Garth (R.G.) Swafford; grandson, Robert Fluekiger; sister, Betty Campbell; brothers, James, Lee and I.H. Cross.
She is survived by her children: Lynn ( Carol) Swafford, Mike (Lillie) Swafford and Karen ( Phil) Ownby; grandchildren, Brandon Patterson, Emma Ownby, and Amber Fluekiger; brothers, Bob Cross, Curtis (Ruby) Cross, Jack (Opal) Cross; sisters-in-law; Mildred Swafford, Lillie Leeper and Jane Wiggins.
The family wishes to express their grateful appreciation to the staff of Jefferson Co. Nursing Home for their wonderful care of their mother. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to the East Tennessee Alzheimer’s Association., P.O. Box 10088, 37939-9910 or to the Green Hill Baptist Church, P.O. Box 575, Dandridge, TN 37725. Funeral service will Friday, February 18, 2011 at 7:00 pm at the Green Hill Baptist Church, with Rev. Len McElyea officiating. Interment graveside service Saturday, 2:00 pm at Hillcrest Cemetery. Family will receive friends Friday evening from 5:00 to 7:00pm prior to the service at the church.
