He served in The United States Air Force in World War II. He was a graduate of Carson Newman College and The University of Tennessee. Preceded in death by parents, Grayson and Katherine Ponder . Survivors include: wife, Kittie Ponder ; son, Michael Ponder of Knoxville; daughter and son-in-law, Betsy and Sam Harris of Knoxville; brothers and sisters-in-law, Grayson Truman and Rose Ponder of Baltimore, MD, Terrell and Bibby Ponder of Johnson City, TN and Herschel and Sara Ponder of Charlotte, NC; sister and brother-in-law, Marion and Tolivar Thomas of White Pine, TN; several nieces and nephews. Family and friends will assemble for graveside service and interment at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Grandview Cemetery, with Rev. Kevin Frederick and Dr. Jim Willbanks officiating. Memorial service will be at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 2, 1999 at New Providence Presbyterian Church, Lamar Alexander Pkwy., Maryville, with visitation to follow.
