COWAN, MARJORIE ALLEN - 93, died January 16, at John F. Keever Solace Center in Asheville, NC. Born in Newport, Tennessee to Malcolm O. and Dulcie R. Allen, Mrs. Cowan lived in Sweetwater for over 60 years before moving to Given Estates retirement community in Asheville. While raising her family in Sweetwater, Mrs. Cowan was active in her church and built a wealth of friendships. Happiest when she was outdoors, she could be seen frequently, until she was almost 90, working in her garden and mowing her yard. She was an avid sports fan and golfer. She was preceded in death by Robert L. Cowan, her husband of 40 years, her sister-in-law, Kathleen Cowan Babb and her brother, Malcolm O. Allen, Jr. Mrs. Cowan is survived by her children and niece Florence C. Sharp (Bob) of Asheville, Sarah (Missy) C. Coviello (Howard Marlowe) of Chevy Chase, MD, Robert L. Cowan (Julie) of Spring, TX and Donna Babb Frinks (Marshall) of Tallahassee, FL; her sister, Edith Redmond of Newport; her grandchildren Donna and Marjorie Sharp, Taylor and Bennett Cowan and her great-granddaughter Kathleen Sharp. She taught them all the value of family, humor, courage and kindness. Visitation will be at Kyker Funeral Home in Sweetwater at 12:30 pm on Saturday, January 22, followed by the funeral at 2:00 pm. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy be made to First United Methodist Church, 501 Church Street, Sweetwater, TN 37874. www.kykerfuneralhome.com
