HAGAMAN , ALVIN GENE May 27, 1929 closed his eyes on May 27, 2010 and opened them to the loving face of God. Gene passed away at his home Thursday, May 27th on his 81st birthday. His family held a private family graveside service on Memorial Day. He was preceded in death by his parents, Coy Dexter and Naomi Ruth Hagaman , and survived by brother, Coy Dexter Hagaman , Jr.; sisters, Clara Hagaman , Vira Lou Dalton; sister-in-law, June Hagaman ; and several nieces and nephews. Gene wore a lot of hats: Husband, Dad, Papaw, Brother, Friend and lots of names: Genie Weenie, "Geennne", Pops, Mr. Haney, Baby Gene , Pe-paw, Hag, and Mr. Hagaman . We can't forget how, at Raggedy Ann & Andy Day Care Center his wife operated, he brought days of joy to the children who tagged him with numerous nicknames. Born, raised, lived and died on the soil he, his father, and grandfather toiled in Knoxville, Tennessee, He loved being outdoors and the joy of being on his tractor on the Hagaman family farmland. An electrician by trade, owner of Electric Lighting and Motor Maintenance, Gene had an engineer mind-set that would tackle and enjoy designing, building, or repairing. He was quite the motorsport's enthusiast from late-model dirt tracks to NASCAR stock cars. He was a member of South Knoxville Masonic Lodge 769 and a volunteer with Mobile Meals on Wheels. Gene never met a stranger. His charisma brightened the days of others through giving of his time, talents, and resources. His laughter, playfulness, strength, fearlessness, courage and love for his family is instilled in all of the family. A simple man of faith, he loved life and the joys & challenges it presented everyday. Dolores Hagaman , wife and soul mate of 60 years; Alvin and Johan Hagaman , son and daughter-in-law; Teresa Greene, daughter; Pat Hagaman , niece who received the gift of being his daughter; Angie and Skip Miller, granddaughter and her husband; Aaron Hagaman , grandson; Brooke and Cody Shipley, granddaughter and her husband; Erica Greene, granddaughter; Brittney Greene, granddaughter; Chase Miller, great-grandson; Nikki Miller, great-grand-daughter -- will continue to live life, as he taught us, loving life and appreciating each other to the fullest as he did! The family invites you to share your memories or express your condolences by signing his Guest Book at www.berryfuneralhome.net. To honor Gene 's legacy of giving to those in need, the family has asked, in lieu of flowers, that donations be made to Victory Junction, which serves children with chronic medical conditions and serious illnesses by providing the funding for a once-in-a-lifetime camping experience.
