November 5, 1934 - August 28, 2015
Herbert Earl Householder, Sr. (Gran-Gran), age 80, went home to the arms of his Lord and daughter Susi Stansberry on August 28, 2015 at Fort Sanders Hospital. Earl retired from the City of Knoxville after over 26 years of service. He was a former member of the Knoxville Volunteer Rescue Squad and served as Captain from 1976 to 1978, and served on the Board of Directors for two years. He was a Red Cross volunteer for 21 years, serving as a first aid instructor, and was a first aid worker for the UT football games, the Knoxville Coliseum, the Thompson-Boling Arena and the TVA&I fair. He enjoyed having a hot dog stand at the fair for many years. He was a member of Valley Grove Baptist Church. He loved his hobby of working and designing Lego buildings. He was preceded in death by his father, Admiral Dewey Householder; mother, Grace Mae Householder; sisters, Alma Martin, Willie May Sherouse, and Martha Croxdale; brothers, Dewey Jr., Guy, Bobby, and Lester; twin brother, Murl; and daughter, Susi Stansberry. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 and a half years, Shirley (Walker) Householder; brother, William Jack; son, Earl Jr. (Cathy); grandchildren, Josh Householder, Courtney Lake, Daxton Stansberry, and Jordan Stansberry; great-grandchildren, Makenzie Lake, Jayden Lake, and Zachary and Riley Householder. His loved his grandchildren very much, along with many nieces, nephews, friends, and his loving cat, Zep. The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 6, 2015 from 2:00-4:00pm at Berry Funeral home on Chapman Highway, with a memorial service to follow at 4:00pm, with Rev. Ed Nelson officiating.
