Retha Dalton Hankins, age 79, of Knoxville, passed away at the home of her twin sister on December 21, 2010. She was a member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church and attended Crossroads Baptist Church in West Palm Beach, FL, during the winter months. Retha grew up in the Gibbs Community and graduated from Gibbs High School in 1949. She received a B.S. and M.S. degrees at UT. She was a physical education teacher at Loudon, Powell, East High School and Holston. She served as the golf and volleyball coach. Retha was inducted into the Knoxville Sports Hall of Fame. She was an avid golfer and participated in women’s golf activities in Knoxville, Tennessee and Florida for over fifty years. She was a follower of all the Tennessee Lady Vol sports programs. She was loved and respected by all who knew her and she never met a stranger for her smile soon made them friends. Preceded in death by parents, Sam and Eva Dalton, husband, C. Fred Hankins, three half brothers, four half sisters and brother in law, Price Wilkins. She is survived by her twin sister, Letha Wilkins, special niece Jan Wilkins, special nephew, Jeff (Mary Ann) Wilkins and great nephews, Jared and Lucas Wilkins, nephews, John (Mildred) Dalton, Dennis (Barbara) Tabler and Aubrey (Ginger) Dalton, nieces, Carolyn Cochran, Velva (Joe) Irwin, Charlsie (Ronnie) Hall, Marlynn (Sam) Miller, Martha (Dennis) Danilchuck, Betty (Rick) Inman, Donna Sue (Greg) Johannsen and a host of great nephews and nieces. Memorial donations may be made to Beaver Dam Baptist Church; 4328 E. Box 15016, Knoxville, TN 37901. Funeral Service, 4:00 p.m., Sunday, Smithwood Baptist Church with Dr. Charles Earl and Dr. David Crutchley officiating. Family and friends will meet, 10:45 a.m., Monday, Lynnhurst Cemetery for interment at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m., Sunday at Smithwood Baptist Church.
