Mr. Fred Greer Baxter, age 72, of Newport, passed away Friday evening, June 8, 2001, at his home.
He was retired from Detroit Gasket.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jasper Allan and Edna V. Baxter; brother, Eston Baxter; and sister, Iva Jean Widener.
He was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Mary E. Baxter, of the home; sons, Anthony Baxter, of Dandridge; Lewis Baxter and Donald Baxter, both of Newport; son and daughter-in-law, Ralph and Joyce Baxter, of Newport; daughters and sons-in-law, Faye and Brian Ball, of Cosby; Jane Ann and Bill Turner, of Newport; son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Dale Baxter, of Newport; and son, Danny Phillips, of Cosby; 13 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Jean Baxter, of Cosby. Additional survivors include nieces and nephews and all of his special friends at Detroit Gasket.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, June 11, 2001, at Costner-Maloy Funeral Chapel with Rev. Robert L. Green officiating. Interment will be at Baxter Family Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday, June 10, 2001, at Costner-Maloy Funeral Home.
