Georgia Mae Epps Wilder, age 92, of Newport, passed Tuesday, November 2, 2010 at her home in Newport. Born January 4, 1918 in Hamblen County, Tennessee the daughter of Mary Ellen “Kate” Keicher Epps and William Henry Epps. She was married to Horace Edgar Wilder in Morristown, Tennessee, on December 15, 1934. The family lived in Hamblen County until 1940 when they moved to New Orleans, Louisiana. They returned to Hamblen County in 1944, moved to Newport in 1948 then returned to Hamblen County in 1949. In 1952 they moved back to Newport to remain until present. Georgia retired from Magnavox in 1977. She was an avid quilter and gardener and she loved her flowers. Georgia was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church in Newport where she co-taught her Sunday School Class for many years. Georgia is survived by her son, Edgar A. Wilder, Sr. and wife Diana of Louisville, Tennessee, daughter, Dorothy “Dot” Gaddis and husband Ray Gaddis of Knoxville, son Gerald “Jerry” Wilder and wife Carolyn of Newport, daughter Sandra Griffin and husband Fred Griffin of Crossville, son Raymond Wilder of Newport, and son Terry Wilder and wife Cheryl of Knoxville. Grandchildren, Edgar A. “Eddie” Wilder, Jr. of Maryville, Brenda Duarte and husband Eric of Maryville, Veronica “Ronnie” Tenut and husband Jeff of Hendersonville, Tennessee, Jeffery “Jeff” Wilder of Newport, Todd Gadis of Knoxville, Nicole “Nikki” Brown and husband Chris of Knoxville, Gabriel “Gabe” Wilder of Knoxville, and Amy Griffin and husband Giany Barbat of Branford, Connecticut. Great–grandchildren, Christopher “Chris” Wilder of Maryville, Joseph “Joe” Wilder of Jacksonville, North Carolina, Jennifer Tenut of Hendersonville, Lindsey Wilder of Woodbury, Tennessee, Savannah Teunt of Hendersonville, Morgan Wilder of Newport, Jeremy Tenut of Hendersonville, and Callie Brown of Knoxville. Great-great-grandchildren, Dykota Lynn Wilder of Jacksonville, and Peyton Wilder of Woodbury. She is also survived by one sister, Virginia Epps Bewley of Morristown and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her husband, Horace Wilder, November 30, 1960 and son Ray Everett Wilder July 27, 1946 and granddaughter, Jennifer Wilder July 17, 1970. Brothers, Albert Monroe Epps February 15, 1928 and William Alexander Epps, April 7, 1929, sisters, Mary Epps Davis, March 1, 1994, Lucille Epps Blair February 22, 1986 and Ada Ruth Epps July 4, 1921, brothers, Henry C. “Hank” Epps September 21, 2002, Howard Clarence Epps October 8, 1924 and Wayne Epps January 12, 2010 and niece Helen Davis Hurst March 22, 2006 and nephew Charles W. Davis July 26, 2010. Services will be held 8:00 pm Thursday, November 4, 2010 in Manes Funeral Home West Chapel, with Rev. Rick Spell and Rev. Glenn Bradley officiating, and 2:00 pm Friday, November 5, 2010 at Noe’s Chapel United Methodist Church, Morristown, TN, with Rev. Dennis Loy officiating, with burial to follow at Noe’s Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends for 6-8 pm Thursday at Manes Funeral Home prior to the services and 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm Friday at Noe’s Chapel United Methodist Church prior to the funeral. Memorial donations may be made to First United Methodist Church of Newport, Noe’s Chapel United Methodist Church of Morristown and to Smoky Mountain Hospice, Newport, TN. A Very special thanks to caregivers Gail Samples, Melinda Gentry, Jade Fraizer, Sue Crum, Dr. Thomas Conway, and the staff at Smoky Mountain Home Health and Hospice, and to a great group of friends and neighbors.
