HAMLEY , FRANK A. JR. passed away on March 20th, 2008 at Ben Atchley Tennessee State Veteran's Home after a long and wonderful life of 89 years. One of the greatest of the greatest generation, he spent the best part of his life setting an example of reason, tolerance, kindness, and dedication for his family which has been reflected in the quality of our lives. He raised two children Brenda and Steven, who loved him more than anyone else and spent 8 of his golden years caring every day for his daughter while she was suffering with multiple sclerosis. No father could do more for his family. Frank led by example and in doing so made us better people than we would have been without knowing him or having him as a father. He was a member of the Lincoln Park Methodist Church. He served his country and the people of Europe in need as a member of the 558th Squadron of the 387th Bombardment Group, Ninth Air Force, during WWII. When asked why he enlisted, he told me "The people over there need help and we were the only ones who could do it". He was an electrician at Oak Ridge National Laboratory for 23 years and a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers for fifty eight years. Frank was preceded in death by Frank A. Hamley , Sr. and Zura Willie Hobson Hamley . He is also preceded in death by his wife Nell Marie Myers Hamley , daughter Brenda Sue Hamley , brothers William H. Hamley , Harold.C. Hamley , Rush M. Hamley and sisters Mary E. Mynatt, Grace L. Turner and Margaret L. Atkins. He is survived by a son, Steven A. Hamley ; brother Jack A. Hamley ; sister Frances I Wade and many nieces and nephews. His family would like to thank all our extended family at the Ben Atchley State Veteran's Home, especially Donna, Pat, Christie, Dr. Sullivan, Brenda Mayo, Summar, Brenda, Mark, Turon, Nikki and all the other wonderful people who took care of him. No more need be said. Godspeed Father. Service, 8:00 p.m., Monday, Mynatt Funeral Home Chapel Fountain City, Dr. Terry Kirby officiating. Family and friends will meet, 12:30 p.m., Tuesday, Mynatt Funeral Home Fountain City and proceed to Lynnhurst Cemetery for interment at 1:00 p.m. Pallbearers: John F. Atkins Kenny Edwards, Hugh Allen Hamley , Glenn A. Atkins, Kenny Edwards, Randy Ogle and Frank Campbell. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the National V.F.W.
