WADE, FRANCES IRENE HAMLEY passed away on July 24, 2009 in Houston, Texas where she had moved to be cared for by her daughter. A long time Knoxville, Tennessee resident, Frances was born in Houston, Mississippi on June 15, 1911 to parents Franklin Arthur Hamley , Sr. and Zura Willie Hobson. Frances often said she was very blessed and so happy to have lived such a long and full life and to have so many friends. She had a zest for life and a love of flower gardening, cooking, interior design, fashion and international travel. But most of all she loved her family and was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. We will greatly miss her optimism and her philosophy that laughter kept her young. As a young woman, Frances was a Medical and X-ray Laboratory Technician who married the love of her life, Sherman Mac Wade on her birthday in 1946. Sherman, then President of Emery Stores Inc. / Wholesale Merchandise Co., preceded her in death in 1965. Also preceding her in death were her parents; brothers: Harold C. Hamley , Frank A. Hamley , Jr., William H. Hamley and Rush M. Hamley ; sisters: Grace L. Turner, Mary E. Mynatt and Margaret L. Atkins. Frances is survived by her son, Gary Sherman Wade and wife Jean of Waynesboro, Virginia and daughter, Janis Wade Stokes and husband James of Houston, Texas; four grandsons: Jeffrey Sherman Wade and wife Kellie of South Riding, Virginia, Gavin Campbell Wade and wife Pamela of Reston, Virginia, Matthew Wade Stokes and Mitchell Blake Stokes, both of Los Angeles, California. She is also survived by brother, Jack A. Hamley of Knoxville; beloved niece, Martha Jean Atkins Carter as well as numerous other nieces and nephews. Frances was a long time member of Powell United Methodist Church and a former member of Holston Hills Country Club and Fountain City Sportsmen's Club. Family and friends will gather in the Lynnhurst Cemetery parking lot 10:45 am Thursday, August 13, and proceed to the gravesite for the 11:00 am service and interment.
