UNDERWOOD, NICHOLAS LOWREY, JR. - 66, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Saturday, May 7, 2011, at Memorial Hospital. He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Cleveland for over 35 years, dedicated servant to the Lord, active as a choir member and deacon. He served on many committees and was actively involved in the relocation of the new church. He was a graduate of Fulton High School and the University of Tennessee Knoxville. He enjoyed coaching as a young adult, chaperoning church missions, playing golf with friends and traveling, especially his yearly trips to the beach. After retiring from the Internal Revenue Service, he continued to work each year with Decosimo of Chattanooga during tax season. He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Rev. Ralph Galyon. He is survived his wife of 42 years, Judy Galyon Underwood, whom he loved to travel the U.S. visiting lighthouses as their hobby. Other survivors include his father, Nicholas L. Underwood, Sr., and mother, Juanita Cooper Underwood of Knoxville; sons and wives: Jeff and Amy Underwood of Cleveland, and Greg and Kara Underwood of Ooltewah, and the joy of his life was being Poppy to his two grandchildren Gracie and Chance Underwood of Ooltewah; mother-in-law, Marjorie Galyon of Maryville; and many extended family and friends. His family has requested that memorials be made to First Baptist Church Generation Building Fund, PO Box 2368 Stuart Road, Cleveland TN 37320. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Ralph Buckner Funeral Home and Crematory.
