CARTER , MR. ROY CLAY - age 68, of Maynardville, passed away Wednesday, June 18, 2003, at his home in Maynardville. He was a graduate of Horace Maynard High School. He served as Union County Court Clerk, 1970-1994, and he was Union County Executive from 1994-1998. He was a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church. He was a heart transplant recipient in 1994. Preceded in death by parents, Franklin Otis Carter and Myrtle Sharp Carter brother, Otis Carter father and mother-in-law, Seigle and Grace Turner. Survived by wife of 47 years, Peggy Carter children, Susan Roberts Suchocki and husband, Mike of Knoxville, Gary Carter , Jimmy Carter and wife, Melissa Carter of Maynardville, Rickey Carter and wife, Joy Carter of Maynardville grandchildren, Aaron Roberts, Haley Carter , Caleb Carter , Jacob Carter , Ashley Boring, Carmen Epperson and husband, Scottie Epperson, and G. W. Rutherford great-grandchildren, Saylar and Dawson Epperson brothers and sisters-in-law, Carlos and Martha Carter twin brother, Coy Carter and wife, Iva Carter , Marshall Carter and Judy Carter sister and brother-in-law, Wilma and Clifford Reeves sisters, Betty Monroe and Jan Meyers. Other favorite brothers-in-law, Bobby Turner, Jack Turner, and Charles Turner. There are several nieces, nephews, and special friends as well as a special caretaker, Virgie Thomas. Special thanks to Dr. Chinta as, well as the staff at St. Mary's Hospice. Funeral services will be held at 8:00 p.m. Friday at Ailor Mortuary, Rev. Burney Hutchison, Rev. Gary Beeler, and Rev. John Mayes officiating. Family and friends will meet at 10:15 a.m. Saturday at the mortuary and proceed to Ousley Cemetery for an 11 a.m. graveside services. Pallbearers will be Aaron Roberts, G. W. Rutherford, Vaughn Graves, Jared Graves, Ryan Graves, and Eddie Turner. Honorary pallbearers will be Jack Turner, Charles Turner, Bobby Turner, Scottie Epperson, Floyd Loy, James (Brother) Phillips, Jackie Simmons, Chester Hutchison, Von Richardson, Roy Graves, Ronnie Irick, Daryl Edmondson, Jim McManus, Larry Lay, and Jim Houston. Special singing by Beulah Moore, Cathy King, and Chris Moore. Arrangements by Ailor Mortuary, Maynardville. Our obit line is 865 992-1114.
