Thomas Bates Trotter, Jr., age 49 of Sevierville, passed away Wednesday, June 8, 2016.
He was baptized and raised in the Methodist Church.
Tommy, a retired detective with the Gatlinburg City Police Department, also served as a patrolman and SWAT team member, and was instrumental in developing the Gatlinburg Bike Patrol Force. He later served as a member on the Sevier County 4th Judicial Drug Task Force. He was awarded the Silver Star for bravery by the American Police Hall of Fame. He loved working with kids and started the first Helping Hands Study Program.
Tommy took pride in being an all-district linebacker for the Gatlinburg-Pittman Highlanders helping lead the team to their first undefeated season in 1982. His love for the game carried over into his later years as he volunteered his time assisting the GP Football Program.
Tommy was preceded in death by his grandparents; Frank and Cecil Clabo, Sam and Sammy Trotter, brother; Edward Browning Trotter.
Survivors:
Children: Austen Renee Trotter, Karson Bates Trotter, Casey Lyn Trotter;
Mother: Dianna Farley and husband Johnny;
Father: Thomas Bates Trotter, Sr. and wife Diandra;
Special Friend, Marcelle Springmann and her family; Franz, Heidi, and Erik;
Step-Siblings: Johnny H. Farley, Jr., Gregory J. Farley, and Sherry Lynn Brooks.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the: Thomas Trotter, Jr. Scholarship Fund, that will be awarded to a Gatlinburg-Pittman High School Student with an interest in pursuing Law Enforcement. Payments can be made to Citizens National Bank, 2661 Parkway, Pigeon Forge, TN 37863.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 PM Sunday with funeral service to follow at 4 PM in the West Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home with Dr. David Ayers officiating. Interment 10 AM Monday in Smoky Mountain Memory Gardens. Serving as pallbearers will be: Doug McKay, David Taylor, Richie Catlett, Kirby Smith, Rick Adams, Benny Hammonds, Allen Cox and Steve Hannah.
