AG seeking justice for slain sister-in-law
Death puts Dunn 'on the other end' of judicial process
By Don Jacobs
Fourth Judicial District Attorney General Jimmy Dunn, whose job is to seek justice for the victims of crimes, now hopes justice will be served in the slaying of his sister-in-law.
The decomposing body of Shawna Swaw, the younger sister of Dunn's wife, was found Oct. 13 stuffed into a trash can in Phoenix, Ariz., Dunn said Monday.
"There's just so many questions," he said.
Dunn's district includes Cocke, Jefferson, Grainger and Sevier counties. He was elected to the post in 2006 but served in the office more than a decade prior to that.
Swaw is the sister of Karene Dunn, who has been married to Jimmy Dunn for 24 years.
Swaw, 39, lived in Fresno, Calif., Dunn said. The family is unsure how Swaw ended up six hours from home in an Arizona morgue. Dunn said a person walking their dog discovered the woman's body.
"It's a different thing," Dunn said. "But it just reinforces what I tell my assistants all the time; to listen to the family, answer their questions, listen to their concerns.
"Now, I'm on the other end, and it's different."
While Dunn said he is trying to get information for the family about the slaying and subsequent investigation, he has not traveled to Arizona.
No arrests had been made as of Monday, Dunn said.
