Filby , 71, south Kansas City, MO, passed away Thursday, January 9, 1997, at St. Joseph Health Center. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday, January 13, at the Mount Moriah and Freeman Chapel; cremation with private interment in Mount Moriah Cemetery. Friends may call 7-8:30 p.m. Sunday, in the chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Lung Association. Mr. Filby was born November 22, 1925, in Ithaca, NY, and lived in this area most of his life. He was a civil engineer with Black & Veatch, retiring in 1983. He was a member of Community Christian Church. He served in the US Navy. Survivors include his wife, Ruth, of the home; son, David, Overland Park, KS; daughters, Lori Leek, Overland Park, KS, and Shelley Frazier, Spring Hill, KS; brother, Ellsworth F. ''Pete'' Filby , Oakland, CA; and four grandchildren.
