RALPH BERNARD HORNER, age 89, of New Market, TN passed away peacefully on June 5, 2011 at Life Care Center of Jefferson City. He was a member of Talbott Cumberland Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder for many years. He was a veteran of World War II, having served his country in the United States Army. He was an avid gardener who loved to share his produce with friends and neighbors. He was a woodworker by trade, and made numerous pieces of furniture for friends and family. He retired from Rugel Woodworking in his early 80’s. The pulpit furniture he made can be found in churches locally and nationwide. He was a talented musician and played most of the stringed instruments, however, his passion was the guitar and he enjoyed playing for the friends and residents of Life Care. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Callie Roberts Horner; his daughter, Rebecca Ann McClane; brothers, Hampton and Claude Horner. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Cora Biddle Horner; daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Mike McClane; grandchildren who were the light of his life, Matt McClane and Amanda McClane; sister, Grace Kilbourne; brother, Bruce Horner; son-in-law, Darrell McClane; several dear nieces and nephews. The family would like to express special appreciation to the staff of Life Care for the outpouring of love and compassion afforded him while he was a resident there. Funeral service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday evening, June 9, 2011 at the Farrar Jefferson City Chapel with Rev. Richard Reid and Rev. Marvin Dobson officiating. Family and friends will gather at 10:45 a.m. Friday morning at Jefferson Memorial Gardens for an 11:00 a.m. graveside interment service with full military honors. Family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. prior to the service on Thursday evening. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Talbott Cumberland Presbyterian Church of a charity of your choice.
