He attended Valley View Baptist Church in Wears Valley. Joe began his candy making career at Ole Smoky Candy Kitchen in Gatlinburg in 1954. In 1982, he and his wife Joyce opened Country Candy Kitchen in Pigeon Forge, where Joe could still be found working alongside his sons. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Maggie Rimel; wife of 54 years, Joyce Clabo Rimel; and brother, Allen Rimel. Survivors include his Sons and daughters-in-law: Blake and Judy Rimel, of Gatlinburg, Tim and Cathy Rimel, of Pigeon Forge; Grandchildren: Joshua, Kaitlin and Luke Rimel; Brothers and wives, David and Anita Rimel, Larry and Patti Rimel, all of Wears Valley; Sister and husband, Linda and Winford Connatser of Sarasota, Florida; Sister-in-law, Jean Rimel of Wears Valley; Daughter of Judy Rimel, Tenisha Bright; Several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other family and friends. The family will receive friends 4-7 PM Friday with funeral service to follow at 7 PM in the West Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home with Rev. Preston Joslin, Rev. Greg Watson and Rev.
