CLABO, Orville F. — Age 84, of Roseburg, Oregon, passed away on Monday, December 19, 2005, at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born on November 24, 1921, in Soda Springs, Idaho, the son of John and Myrtle (Reagan) Clabo.
He was raised and educated in Idaho. He entered the U.S. Navy in 1942 to defend our country during WWII. He served on the U.S.S. San Francisco as a Boatswain's Mate in the Pacific Theatre. He was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Service Ribbon with thirteen Bronze Stars, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon and the WWII Victory Medal. He was also credited with shooting down an enemy fighter plane.
After the war he moved to Oregon where he met his future wife, Ida. They were united in marriage on June 30, 1954, in Payette, Idaho.
They moved to Prineville, Oregon, where they lived until moving to the Roseburg area in 1964. Orville worked at Permineer Lumber Company and later at the South Umpqua School District. He retired in 1983.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and gardening, but mostly he loved spending time with his family. He was a member of the Roseburg American Legion.
He is survived by his wife of over 51 years, Ida of Roseburg; son, Gary Jones and his wife, Linda of Roseburg; three daughters, Judy Hutton and her husband, Doug of Salem, Oregon; Dixie Cullison and her husband, Lyndon of Yoncalla, Oregon; and Carleen Gerlt and her husband, Steve of Roseburg; brother, Short Clabo of Royal City, Washington; sister, Sib Metzker of Nampa, Idaho; thirteen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.
He has gone home to be with his parents, three brothers and three sisters and a grandson. Orville's memory will live on forever in the hearts of his family and friends.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate his life at 11 a.m., on Thursday, December 22, 2005, at the Roseburg VA National Cemetery. The VFW District Twelve Honor Guard will offer military rites.
