Clayton Wayne Vineyard of Lenoir City passed this life to a heavenly home on Aug. 18, 2006. Clayton was born in Manakin, Va. on March 6, 1945, but moved to Lenoir City at an early age and lived in Lenoir City most of his life. He served in the U.S. Navy at the U.S. Naval Photographic Center in Washington, D.C. He graduated from Lenoir City High School and attended the University of Tennessee in Chattanooga and Knoxville. Clayton was retired from Collins and Aikman in Athens and was a member of the Lenoir City Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his father, Calvin Vineyard ; his grandson, Logan Vineyard ; and father and mother-in-law, Arvine and Grace Huffine.
He leaves behind his wife of 40 years, Gail Huffine Vineyard ; his sons and daughters-in-law, Kevin and Jodi, of Ooltewah, Travis and Jennifer of Lenoir City, and Brent and Tonya of Kingston; his mother, Josie Vineyard ; his brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Loretta Vineyard ; his nephew, Chip Vineyard ; and his niece, Wendy Moses of Lenoir City. He was a devoted grandfather to his four grandsons: Lane, Hayden, Jackson and Brycen. He also leaves the following brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Howard and Carolyn Huffine of Oak Ridge, Alvin and Margaret Huffine of Chattanooga and Tammy and Richard Moore of Holtville, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
The family received friends Monday at Click Funeral Home in Lenoir City. Funeral services followed with the Rev. Glenn Gamble, the Rev. Richard Moore, the Rev. Howard Huffine and the Rev. Bryant Bush officiating. Family and friends gathered at Click Funeral Home Tuesday and proceeded to the Loudon County Memorial Gardens for graveside services.
The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses for the care that was given Clayton during the last two years at the Tennessee Cancer Specialists and a special thanks to the nurses on the 5th floor Oncology Unit at Park West Hospital, who treated Clayton and his family with such loving care during his stay there.
In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to the St. Jude Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN . 38105-1942.
