Mildred Jo Clift McDowell, age 89, passed away at her home at 10:00 PM on Monday, November 2, 2015. She was a member of Sevier Heights Baptist Church for over 60 years and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Born in Saint Charles, Virginia on October 26, 1926, the family moved to Knoxville in 1938. Graduate of Friendsville Academy and attended Tennessee Wesleyan College where she was a member of Sigma Iota Chi Sorority. Worked at Regas Restaurant, Kimball's Jewelers, and Shoney's Restaurant. At age 48, she became an LPN and worked for over 20 years as an ICU/CCU Nurse at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center. Preceded in death by husband, Wayne Stewart McDowell; parents, Thomas Clift and Grace P. Wacks Clift; brothers, Childress (Geedy) and Harold Clift; and sisters, Billie Clift Lucas, and Audrey Clift Carey. Survived by her son, Phillip Kimball McDowell; daughters, Wanda Kaye McDowell, and Cynthia Ann Williams; grandchildren: Brandon Wayne Knight (Diane), Dara Leigh Hitson (Jason); great-grandchildren: Lucas Knight Hitson, and Brian Gribenski; great-great-grandson, Jacob Gribenski; several cousins, nieces, and nephews. A heartfelt thanks to UT Hospice staff Pam, April, and especially Selena, who along with Phillip was there at the end. Also the Choices program whose help kept her at home. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Berry Funeral Home. Family and friends will meet at East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery, 5901 Lyons View Pike on Monday at 1:30 PM for graveside services, Rev. Don Wilson officiating.
