Gaylord M. Lambdin age 90 of Alcoa, went to be with the Lord Thursday, February 18, 2010, at Asbury Place Maryville. Gaylord led an interesting and full life. He was an entrepreneur in the 1950’s, owning a grocery store in Alcoa with his brother Glen, and co-owner of The Maryville-Alcoa Twins, a semipro farm team of The Cincinnati Reds. He was also an avid musician, playing on The Midday Merry-Go-Round with his band, The Arizona Cowboys. Gaylord was a graduate of Lincoln Memorial University of Alabama, and Tennessee Tech. He was a well-known teacher of math and science with Blount County Schools and was the designer and operator of the Heritage Planetarium. Gaylord was also a former mayor and member of Alcoa City Council. After retirement, Gaylord co-authored The Lambdin Chronicles and established The LMU Maryville Graduate Center. LMU has founded a distinguished professorship in his name and elected him to their Educators’ Hall of Fame. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian Elkins Lambdin; parents, Foraker & Minnie Belle Lambdin; brother, Midas Lambdin. Survivors include his daughter, Sonya Marsh of Alcoa; grandchildren, Richie & Krystal Marsh of Clinton, Brittany Marsh of FL; great-grandchildren, Belle & Emily Marsh; brother, Glen Lambdin of Alcoa, Buck Lambdin & wife, Jean of Maryville; sister, Rowena Hamilton of Maryville, Lucille Taylor of Alcoa. The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:30 pm Sunday, February 21, 2010, with funeral service at 2:30 pm in Smith West Chapel. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Heritage Planetarium or the charity of your choice. Interment will follow the service at Sherwood Memorial Gardens.
