Dr. Harris Trent Vandergriff, age 90, of Maryville, passed away Thursday morning, September 9. Preceded in death by wife Blanche Pepper Vandergriff. Survived by children and grand children: son Harris Trent Vandergriff, Jr. with daughter Emily (who preceded in death) and wife Melva; son Louis Allen Vandergriff, wife Marta, sons Nathan (with expecting wife Désirée) and Alexander; daughter Kay Ann Allen, husband Michael, and sons Christopher with wife Melony and children Taegan and Cooper, Andrew with wife Natalie and children Quentin and Evy; and son John Vandergriff and wife Milly. Dr. Vandergriff was a member of St. Andrews Episcopel Churh. Born in Maynardville, TN by Elbert Allen and Anna Della (Hutchison) Vandergriff (deceased). Preceded in death by sister Juanita Beeler. Dr. Vandergriff graduated from Horace Maynard High School, completed under graduate studies at Lincoln Memorial University (1940; Alumnus of the Year in 2005); and continued his education at University of TN Medical School (1944). Interned at Knoxville General Hospital 1944-1945. After serving in the Army 1945-1947, he moved to Maryville and started his practice. In 1947, he became a member of Blount Memorial Hospital staff at its inception. Received a Distinguished Service Award from Blount Memorial Hospital, Blount Memorial Foundation in 2000. Became a life member of the American Academy of Family Practice. Received an award for 15 years as uncompensated member of Selective Service System. Member of the Board of Trustees, TN Medical Association 1981-1984. Retired July 16, 1987. In his retirement, Dr. Vandergriff truly enjoyed talking with past patients.
