Funeral Services for Angela Ellis Smith, 90, of Crossville, who passed away Oct. 20, 1996, were conducted 11 a.m. Oct. 22 from the Chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home. Rev. David Allen officiated with special music by Bob Spears and Susan Keeler. Graveside Services were then held at 3:30 p.m. at Lynnhurst Cemetery in Knoxville.
Pallbearers were Benton Bilbrey, William Campbell, Ervia Hamby; Boyd Raper; T.J. Selby; and Vaughn Swafford.
Honorary Pallbearers were Sam Hassler; James E. Thompson; and David White.
Mrs. Smith was born Oct. 30, 1905 in Jefferson City, Tenn. She was a Member of First Baptist Church of Crossville, Charter Member of DAR-Crab Orchard Chapter, Charter Member of Cumberland Medical Center Women's Auxiliary, Founding Member of the Art Circle Public Library. She taught Home Economics at Cumberland County High School in addition to being a wife, homemaker and mother.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Charles M. Smith; daughter, Joanne Smith; granddaughter, Charleen Laird Smith; sister, Cody Ellis Bachman; brother, Dr. Samuel Ellis; and parents, Dr. Joseph Napoleon and Fannie Laird Ellis.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Charles Laird and Jeanene Johnson Smith of Crossville; sisters, Francenia Ellis Herd of Knoxville and Jane Ellis Tracy of Harlem, Ga.; nieces, Angela Riedel of Boulder, Co., and Francenia Tracy Walls of Raleigh, N.C.; nephews, Samuel Laird Ellis of Santo Domingo, D.R., Dr. Joseph Ellis of Brentwood, Tenn., and Lee Tracy and Richard Tracy, both of Harlem, Ga.
