Underwood, Zella Mae – age 87 of Knoxville passed away Wednesday, April 22, 2015, at Shannondale Health Care Center. Mrs. Underwood was a lifelong member of Trentville United Methodist Church. She was retired from Standard Knitting Mills after over 30 years of service and was currently residing at Shannondale Health Care Center. Mrs. Underwood was born in Knox County on September 13, 1927 and was the daughter of the late Mary Blanche Griffin and Samuel Henry Branson, and the granddaughter of W.L. and Mollie Branson who raised her. She was also preceded in death by husband, Stanley M. Underwood; sister, Mary Branson; brother and sister-in-law, Tommy Joe and Evelyn Branson; and nephew, Donald Branson. She is survived by daughter, Patricia Mowery and husband Richard (Dick) of Farragut; granddaughter, Meg Danekas and husband Michael of Greenville, SC; grandson, Wes Mowery of Nashville; great grandchildren, Hadley, Ella Kate, and Branson Danekas; nieces, Linda Snyder, Gail McNutt and husband Charles, and Connie Burkhart and husband Freddy; nephew’s wife, Patty Branson; and several great nieces and nephews. She is also survived by step-children and their families, Tresa Lyn Underwood, Stanley L. Underwood, and Glen Underwood. The family would like to express their deep appreciation to the wonderful staff at Shannondale Health Care Center who cared for Mrs. Underwood. Special thanks to her special at-home friends and caregivers, Charlotte and John Mills, Charlene Lusk, Karen Luh, Claudia Lusby, and Bill Gilbert. Funeral services will be 7:00 PM Friday, April 24, 2015, at Bridges Funeral Home with Rev. James Whedbee and Rev. Charles McNutt officiating. Any non-floral memorials may be made to Trentville United Methodist Church, 9215 Strawberry Plains Pike, Strawberry Plains, TN 37871. Family and friends will meet 10:45 AM on Saturday at Eastview Memorial Gardens for an 11:00 AM interment.
