Retired Lt. Col. James E. Arnett Jr. of South Knoxville - a former principal of Bonnie Kate and Skaggston elementary schools - died Tuesday. He was 70.
Col. Arnett was active at Meridian Baptist Church, where he was a member, deacon and Sunday school teacher.
A veteran of World War II and the Korean conflict, Col. Arnett was a member of the Tennessee Army National Guard and the Tennessee Defense Force.
He leaves his wife, Elizabeth Arnett ; daughter and son-in-law Mary Sue "Suzie" and David Witenbarger; sons and daughters-in-law James E. III and.Debra Arnett and Allen and Rita Arnett , all of Knoxville; grandchildren William, Emily, Thomas, David and Jeffrey; a brother, Richard Arnett, Melbourne, Fla.; a stepbrother, Denny Brown, Jefferson, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Meridian Baptist Church with burial at Meridian Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 tonight at Berry Funeral Home. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the.Dialysis Center Inc. (DCI) Patient Service Fund, 3731 Martin Mill Pike, Knoxville, Tenn. 37920.
