WEST, JOSEPHINE (JO) MCGEHEE - age 94, of Knoxville, passed away peacefully at 7:55 a.m. Tuesday, August 18, 2009. She was the loving wife of Homer West for 71 years, and was preceded in death by her parents, Charles A. and Lucy Morgan McGehee; baby daughter, Lucy Della West; sister, Dorothy M. Bond; and brother, C.A. McGehee. She was a member of Beaver Creek Cumberland Presbyterian Church, where she taught Sunday School for many years, was active in the Cumberland Presbyterian Women's Ministry, and Sarah Prater Circle. She was active in Church Women United and a member of the Lydia Russell Bean Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She enjoyed flower gardening and creative flower arranging, and was a member of the Fountain City Garden Club. She won various awards for her civic work and flower arrangements, and was a Master Flower Show Judge. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Beaver Creek Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 7225 Old Clinton Pike, Knoxville, TN 37921. Survivors: husband, Homer West of Knoxville; sons and daughters-in-law, Morgan and Deanna West of Knoxville, Sidney and Susan West of Taylorsville, North Carolina, Joel and Mary West of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; 10 grandchildren; 10 great- grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Robert D. and Charlotte McGehee of Knoxville; sisters-in-law, Vella McGehee of Knoxville, and Zelpha (Tiny) West of Maryville; several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held 7:00 p.m. Thursday at Beaver Creek Cumberland Presbyterian Church with Dr. Thomas Sweet, Reverend Fran Vickers, and Reverend Fred West officiating. Family and friends will meet 10:45 a.m. Friday at Greenwood Cemetery for an 11:00 a.m. graveside service and interment. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 6:45 p.m. Thursday at Beaver Creek Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Mrs. West's guest book is available at www.stevensmortuaryinc.com.
