WEST, HOMER - age 98 of Knoxville, passed away Monday, August 2, 2010 at Mercy Medical Center, St. Mary's. Homer attended the University of Tennessee and worked for White Stores for 50 plus years and retired as Advertising Director. He was a member of Beaver Creek Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Powell and was an active Civitan for many years. He had a great sense of humor and was an avid lover of baseball. He was preceded in death by wife of 71 years, Josephine McGehee West; baby daughter, Lucy Della West; brother, Winfred K. West; sister, Arbutus Nixon; daughter-in-law, Susan West; and parents, George H. and Della Ketner West of Dayton, TN. He is survived by son, Sidney West of Taylorsville, NC; sons and daughters-in-law, Morgan and Deanna West of Knoxville, Joel and Mary West of Baton Rouge, LA; 10 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; brother-in-law, Robert McGehee and wife Charlotte of Knoxville; sister-in-law, Vella McGehee of Knoxville; devoted nephew, Jim Nixon and wife Chris; several other nieces and nephews. Family and friends will meet 10:45 a.m. Saturday at Greenwood Cemetery for an 11:00 a.m. graveside service and interment. The family will receive friends Friday from 6:00 until 7:30 p.m. at Stevens Mortuary. The funeral service will follow at 7:30 p.m. with Dr. Thomas Sweet and Rev. Fran Vickers officiating.
