SIMPSON, VIRGIL 87 of Vonore Road, Loudon, died suddenly Saturday evening, September 22, 2007. Virgil was a life long resident of Loudon Co., a member and deacon of Freewill Baptist Church, and a veteran of WWII, US Army. He and his wife owned and operated Simpson's Grocery for the past 48 years. Prior to that time, he had worked for Charles H. Bacon Co. He was engaged in farming and beef cattle in conjunction with operating the grocery store. Preceded in death by: his wife, Marjorie Porter Simpson; parents, Conway and Vesta Worley Simpson; sisters, Dorcas Shaw and Frances Simpson; and brother, Halbert Simpson. Survivors: son, Dr. Terry Simpson, Maryville; daughter, Gail Simpson, Loudon; granddaughter, Jennifer Mowdy of Texas; 3 step-granddaughters; one great granddaughter; sisters, Jane Tuck and Anna Sue Waller, Loudon; brothers, John Simpson, Cleveland; Charles Simpson of Philadelphia; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services 2 p.m. Wednesday, Loudon Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Doug Easter and Rev. Darvin Oaks officiating. Eulogy by Dr. Terry Simpson. Interment Simpson Cemetery. Family requests memorials in lieu of flowers to: Loudon Freewill Baptist Church, 8000 Simpson Rd, Loudon, TN 37774 or Maryville College, 502 E. Lamar Alexander Parkway, Maryville, TN 37804. Family will receive friends 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, Loudon Funeral Home.
