GREENWAY, CLYDE ELMER - age 84, passed away July 17th, 2010 at his home with his family and caregivers by his side. Mr. Greenway worked as a heavy equipment mechanic at Oak Ridge National Laboratory until his retirement, in 1988. He was a member of Norwood United Methodist Church and American Legion Post 2 in Knoxville. Mr. Greenway proudly fought for his country in WW II, serving in the United States Army, 103rd Cactus Division, with calls, of duties, in Germany, France, Italy and Austria. He fought in the "Battle of the Bulge" and accumulated "500 Fighting Miles" during his military career. He received many medals and citations for his service to his country including the American Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and the European, African, Middle Eastern Service Medal with 2 Bronze Stars. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Alexander Greenway and Florence Henry Greenway; and by siblings Ruby, Carrie Mae, Homer, Clarence and Olen. He is survived by his wife, Leona Greenway; by sons, John (Kristina) Greenway and David (Shelia) Greenway; by siblings, Eugene and Eunice; and by grandchildren, Joshua and Sean. The family will receive friends Tuesday, July 20th 2010 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. with the funeral to follow in the Highland Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Green officiating. Graveside services will be Wednesday, July 21st, 2010 at 10:00 am at Highland Memorial Gardens with full military honors.
