Our loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, Dorothy Mae Ledford, of Newport, passed away on February 22, 2010, at home with her family by her side.
Dorothy struggled with Parkinson's disease.
The most important things in Dorothy's life were her family and husband, who spent every day caring for Dorothy through her illness with help from health care workers from Amedisys Hospice.
Dorothy touched the lives of many by her kindness and giving heart. She loved to play with her great-grandchildren. Dorothy will be missed by her family.
She is now with her mother Edna Mae Long, father Neil Long, brothers Ronnie and John Long, and sister Rena Jinks in Heaven.
Dorothy was the beloved wife of Lloyd "Bud" Ledford for 50 years, loving mother of Kay Messer, Clayton Ledford, Scotty Barnett, James Crigger, and Brenda Crigger, sister of Betty Lane, Mary Rines, Velma Parker, Katherine Long, Evelyn Smith, Benny Long, and Joseph Long; grandmother of 11; great-grandmother of 17; also mother-in-law of Mary Hale and James Messer; a special sister-in-law and friend of Lena Mae Fowler; and an aunt to several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 8:00 p.m. Thursday, February 25, 2010, in Costner-Maloy Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Vincent Askew officiating.
Family and friends will meet at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, February 26, 2010, to go in procession to Ray's Chapel Cemetery for the 10:00 a.m. interment.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday evening at Costner-Maloy Funeral Home prior to the services.
