Vergie Lee Ledford, 84, of Newport, went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, December 25, 2001 at Mariner Health of Newport. She was a homemaker and a member of Ray’s Chapel Church. Her husband, Clyde Ledford; son, Clyde Ledford, Jr.; daughter, Carolyn Ledford; grandson, Ronnie Gene Fowler; brothers, Willie and Donald Williams; sisters, Dorothy Howard and Hattie Holbert, preceded her in death. She is survived by her daughters: Lena Mae Fowler, of Newport; Nancy Stuart and her husband, Hugh, of Newport; and Betty Duncan and her husband, Paul, of Newport; sons: Loyde Ledford and his wife, Dorothy, of Newport; Alfred (Alf) Ledford, of Newport; Dewey Ledford and his wife, Shirley, of Morristown; and Thurman Ledford and his wife, Sharon, of Morristown; sixteen grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and six great-great grandchildren. Mrs. Ledford will also be missed by several nieces, nephews, and a host of friends. The funeral service will be held Thursday, December 27, 2001 at 8 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jerry Fancher and Rev. Ray Wiley officiating. The graveside service will be Friday, December 28, 2001 at 11 a.m. at Ray’s Chapel Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday evening, December 27, 2001 from 6 until 8 p.m. prior to the service at Brown Funeral Home. Brown Funeral Home has been honored to provide the final arrangements for Mrs. Vergie Lee Ledford.
