BRANNER , MRS. MARY EVANS - age 94, of Dandridge, passed away November 21, 1998, at 8:15 a.m., at the Jefferson County Nursing Home, where she had been a patient for the past seven years. Preceded in death by: her parents, Walter and Curley Evans; three daughters, Memmer Ruth and Marjorie Ella Branner and Marlin Elnora Gray; two sons, Roy Calvin and Charles Leonard Branner . She was a dedicated member of Mount Carmel Baptist Church, where she served as collector and distributor of the Missions Fund. A gifted woman, she often entertained family and friends with her piano and organ playing and was widely known for her skills in sewing and crocheting. Mothering seemed to be an instinctive habit with her, for she reared eight children of her own, helped rear seven nieces and nephews and three grandchildren. For the 94 years, one month and 22 days she lived, she was well known as a caring, neighborly, kind-hearted person who shared freely her love and possessions to whomever evidenced a need. She is survived by: her devoted husband, Roy Alfred Branner , with whom she lived in Holy matrimony for 74 years; five daughters, Alice Thomas, Knoxville, Curley Ray, Dandridge, Beaulah Brooks, Kings Mountain, N.C.; Kathleen (Donald) Brown, Strawberry Plains, Christive Dockery, Kings Mountain, N.C.; two sons, Clinton (Sarah) Branner and Walter (Lois) Branner , Knoxville; another son-in-law, James Gray, Knoxville; two sisters, Elnora Madison, Jefferson City, and Memmer Ray, Dandridge; one brother, P.J. Evans of White Pine; 23 grandchildren; three especially devoted ones who, at one time resided in her home, Curtis Branner , Ronald Thomas and Janet Jackson; 37 great-grandchildren; and 14 great, great-grandchildren; several other relatives and friends to include the caring staff at Jefferson County Nursing Home. The family will receive friends Tuesday, November 24, 1998, from 7-8 p.m., at Farrar Funeral Home in Dandridge. Funeral services will follow at 8 p.m., with Rev. Steven Simpson officiating. Interment will be Wednesday, November 25, 1998, at 11 a.m., at Belmont Cemetery, Dandridge. Farrar Funeral Home in charge.
