Leora Webb Thompson, age 95, passed away Sunday, December 4, 2011, at the home of her son.
She was born May 7, 1916, in Cosby, TN to Melvin and Susie Henderson Webb.
She moved to Bristol in 1946. She was a volunteer at Wellmont Bristol Regional Hospital from 1980-2006. During this time, she received an award for 26,163 dedicated volunteer hours in January of 2005.
She was an active Girl Scout leader for over 20 years. She maintained a lifetime membership in the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 28, and was an active member of the organization for over 50 years. .
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband W. H. 'Bill' Thompson, sister Lola Webb, son-in-law Donald Charles Monroe, and brother Leith T. Henderson.
She is survived by her daughter Carolyn Monroe, son Jack Thompson and wife Dottie, sister Beulah Henzel, grandchildren Tim and Mark Monroe, Cindy Alvis and husband Randy, Chip Thompson and wife Misty; great-grandchildren Emily, Anna, and Caitlyn Monroe, John Mark Monroe, Aaron, Jacob, and Gypsy Alvis, and Brady Thompson; and great-great-grandchildren Caden Alvis and Charlie Monroe.
Funeral services will be held at 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 6, 2011, at Akard Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Scott Price officiating. Music will be provided by Randy, Aaron, and Jacob Alvis. Pallbearers will be grandsons Tim Monroe, Mark Monroe, Chip Thompson, Randy Alvis, John Mark Monroe, Aaron Alvis, and Jacob Alvis.
The family will receive friends at Akard Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 6, 2011, from 6:00-8:00 p.m.
Interment will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 7, 2011, in Union Cemetery in Newport, TN.
