David Terrel Wilson – age 86 of Knoxville, passed away Sunday, June 20, 2010, Father’s Day, at Fort Sanders Regional Hospital. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Port Solerno, Florida. David was a veteran of World War II serving the country he loved as a P-51 fighter pilot in the United States Army Air Corps Iwo Jima Campaign receiving a Purple Heart, Air Force Theatre Ribbon with two Bronze Stars, Air Medal with One Oak Leaf Cluster, American Theatre Ribbon, Victory Medal, and WW II Occupation Medal. Before leaving the military, David earned the rank of Captain. Until this year, he attended Air Force reunions of his still active 78th TAC FTR SQ. David retired from Blood and Plasma Alliance in 1980 where he established a successful partnership with Dr. Carl Nelson. An avid golfer for many years, David enjoyed many retirement days playing golf with his wife, Joyce and friends. David was loved and respected by all who knew him. He always had many stories to share. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joyce Ivey Wilson; parents, Wilbur Meade Wilson II and Lucy Teague Wilson and 7 brothers and sisters. He is survived by his beloved children and spouses, Pamela (Jim) Owen, Deborah (Stewart) Rossi and Kimberly Wilson (David Hicks) all of Knoxville; David R. (Lori) Wilson of West Valley City, Utah; grandchildren and spouses, Virginia (Tom) Gryta of New York, New York, Isaiah, Isaac and Jordan Wilson of West Valley City, Utah, Rachel Wilson of Lumberton, New Jersey, Bruce Sprowl of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Brian (Heather) Sprowl of Knoxville, Paige (Scott) Pantall of Jacksonville, Florida and Valerie Owen of St. Mary’s, Georgia; great-grandchildren, Jayda Rose Wilson of Knoxville, Sadie Wendels Wilson of Salt Lake City, Utah, Margaret “Maggie” Joyce Gryta of New York and Alexandra “Alex” Mae Pantall of Jacksonville, Florida; sister-in-law, Marcella Holder Wilson of Knoxville and many nieces and nephews; very special thanks to Dr. Jim Ferguson and Dr. Greg Lemense and medical assistants David Kozacek and Wendy Stallcup for their compassionate and loving care. The family will receive friends from 5:30 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of First Baptist Church Concord with a Celebration of Life to follow at 7:00 p.m. with Rev. Steve Peek officiating. Family and Friends will meet at 10:15 a.m. Wednesday at Lynnhurst Cemetery for a 10:30 a.m. graveside service with full Military Honors conferred by the East Tennessee Veteran’s Honor Guard. Pallbearers: Sgt. Rachel Wilson, Bruce Sprowl, Brian Sprowl, Jim Owen, Stewart Rossi, David Hicks and Tom Gryta. In lieu of flowers, Memorial donations may be made to Mission of Hope, P.O.
