(August 6, 1941 - October 28, 2011) Shirley Holbert Calton, age 70, of Newport, passed away Friday, October 28, 2011 at Lakeway Regional Hospital. She was of the Baptist Faith. She was preceded in death by her parents, James (Red) and Cindie Gilland Holbert; brother, James Edward Holbert; niece, Cathy Britt Stata; and special aunt, Nancy Holbert Ball. She is survived by her husband, Gene Calton, of Newport; sons, Michael Holbert of Sevierville; Gary Valentine and wife Kim of Knoxville; daughters, Treva Valentine Stricklnad of GA, Wanda Valentine Brewer and husband Sam of Cosby; special daughter-in-law, Kathy Baxter Holbert; sisters, Channie Holbert McGaha and husband Jack of White Pine, Margaret Holbert of Newport; grandchildren, Wesley Valentine and his wife and caregiver, Nikki Valentine, Shan Bryant, Nikki Brewer, Cindie Holbert, Bo Brewer, Cassie Johnson, Ashley Valentine, Travis Strickland and Trina Strickland; five great grandchildren; special niece and nephews, Tony, Kaye and Danny; and special family friend Terri Tipton; also many other family and friends. Funeral services will be held 8:00 pm Monday, October 31, 2011 in Manes Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jeff Owenby and Rev. Brian Huff officiating. Burial will be held 12:00 noon Tuesday, November 1, 2011 in Union Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Monday at Manes Funeral Home prior to the funeral service.
