U.S. Veteran James (Eddie) Holbert age 67 of Newport passed away Tuesday, June 22, 2010 at his home after a long courageous battle with cancer. He was a Vietnam Veteran and was preceded in death by his parents; James (Red) and Cindie Gilland Holbert, niece; Cathy Britt Stata. He is survived by his son and daughter in law; Danny and Tammy Holbert of New Market, his little four legged son Leroy, grand daughter and husband; Emily and Jeremy Maier of Newport, great grandchildren; Trey, Hailey and Jacob, sisters and brother in law; Shirley and Eugene Calton of Newport, Channie and Jack McGaha of White Pine, Margaret Johnson formerly of Greeneville, special nephews who thought of him as a brother Mike Holbert of Sevierville, special niece who thought of him as a daughter and her husband, Wanda and Sam Brewer of Cosby, several other nieces and nephews, special friend and caregiver Larry McKinsey of White Pine and many other friends to numerous to mention. Funeral service will be 8:00 pm Thursday, June 24, 2010 at the Manes Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Phillip Hall and Rev. Brian Huff officiating, interment will be 10:00 am Friday, June 25, 2010 in the Union Cemetery, family will receive friends 6-8 pm Thursday prior to the service.
