ELDER, AUSTIN BLANO - age 71, of Knoxville, died at 2:40 p.m. Sunday, August 31, 2003, at Parkwest Medical Center. Dedicated, longtime member of Sixth Avenue Baptist Church, where he was a song leader for 30 years and church treasurer. Retired from U. T. Physical Plant after 30 years of service. Preceded in death by parents, Samuel and Elsie Elder sisters, Orpah Lowe, Ruth Pruitt, Belinda Pratt brother, Samuel Elder, Jr., andnephews, Gerald Lowe, Darryl Cox. Survivors: wife, Carolyn Dinwiddie Elder sons and daughters-in-law, Bryan and Teresa Elder of Corryton, Stanley and Sherri Elder of Knoxville grandson whom he dearly loved, Justin Elder sister, Eva Slagle sisters and brothers-in-law, Gay and Ellis Cox, and Viva and Jim Ault, all of Knoxville brother-in-law, Ralph Pratt nieces, Debra Sawyer, Penny Searcy, Claudia Walsh, Carolyn Elder, Terri Hall nephews, Denny Slagle, Gary Cox, Scott Ault, Perry Pratt, and mother-in-law, Gertrude Dinwiddie. Funeral service will be held 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Sixth Avenue Baptist Church, Rev. Bobby Lay and Rev. John Holland officiating. Family and friends will meet at 1:45 p.m. Thursday at Oak Ridge Memorial Gardens for a 2:00 p.m. graveside service and interment. Pallbearers: Bryan Elder, Stanley Elder, Gary Cox, Denny Slagle, Scott Ault, Perry Pratt. Honorary pallbearers: Jay Wolfenbarger, Joe Hazelwood, Bill Anderson, and Buck Nelson. Memorials may be made to Sixth Avenue Baptist Church, 1129 N. Sixth Avenue, Knoxville, TN 37917. Prior to the service, the family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. at Sixth Avenue Baptist Church.
