Gay Terris (Elder) Cox Age 80 of Knoxville went to be with the Lord on June 10, 2010 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born in Dumplin Valley TN, October 6, 1929 and was an alumna of Rule High School. She wed Ellis Lee Cox on December 7, 1951, and in their 58 years together were church members of Tennessee Avenue, and Salem Baptist Church in Halls Tn. She retired in 1990 after over 21 years with the University of Tennessee Knoxville campus police department where for seven years she served as one of the first on campus police women. She was a warm and caring person and always had good things to say about all people. She was preceded in death by her parents Samuel Douglas and Elsie Mae (French) Elder; siblings Orpah, Ruth, Beatrice, Samuel, Delaris, Charles, Austin, and Belinda; her son Darryl Ellis Cox; and in-laws Rev. Charlie M. and Etta Cox. She is survived by her loving husband Ellis Cox; son Gary and daughter-in-law Michele Cox; grandchildren Graham Cox, and Rebekah (Cox) and Scott Bostic; sister and brothers-in-law Viva and Jim Ault, Carolyn Elder, and Ralph Pratt. John (JD) and Mary Cox, and Blanche (Cox) Kingston; and many special nieces, nephews, neighbors, and friends. The family will receive friends on Saturday, June 12 from 6-8 PM at Mynatt Funeral Home Fountain City with the service to follow at 8 PM with Rev. John Holland officiating. Family and friends will meet 1:15 pm Sunday, June 13 at Lynnhurst Cemetery for a graveside service at 1:30 PM. Pallbearers Gary Cox, Graham Cox, Denny Slagle, Scott Ault, Perry Pratt, and Brian Elder. Honorary pallbearers Stanley Elder, Charlie Pratt, Carlton Searcy and Dalton Searcy.
