COX, ELLIS (LEE) - age 85, of Knoxville was called to rest and be with the Lord, on October 23, 2011 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born in Halls-Crossroads, Tn., and was an alumna of Halls High School, and a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in World War II. In December 1951, he wed Gay (Elder) and in their 58 years together were church members of Tennessee Avenue, and Salem Baptist Church in Halls. He retired in 1988 after working over 40 combined years with Lonas Oil and Pilot Oil Company. A mason with Fountain City Lodge #757. He was a warm and caring person and always had good things to say about all people. Preceded in death by wife Gay who passed in 2010, son Darryl Ellis Cox, father Rev. Charlie E. Cox, and mothers Myrtle (Garrett) Cox, and Etta (Dalton) Cox, siblings Elmer ('Hot Shot') and Bette, and in-laws Samuel and Elsie Mae Douglas. He is survived by son, Gary and daughter-in-law, Michele Cox; grandchildren, Graham Cox, Rebekah (Cox) and Scott Bostic; sister Blanche (Cox) Kingston, brother John ('JD') and Mary Cox, uncle Von Garrett, siblings-in-law, Viva and Jim Ault, Ralph Pratt, Carolyn Elder; and many special nieces, nephews, neighbors, and friends. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 25, 2011 from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Mynatt Funeral Home Fountain City with the service to follow at 8:00 p.m. with Rev. John Holland officiating. Family and friends will meet, 10:45 a.m., Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at Lynnhurst Cemetery for a graveside service at 11:00 a.m.
