Chad Burchette
Chad Burchette, son of Joe and Sandy Burchette, received his education beginning at Newport Grammar School and Cocke County High School. He went on to earn an Associate's Degree in Production Agriculture at Walters State, a BS in General Studies from ETSU, and a MS in Education Curriculum with minors in Environmental Health and Criminal Justice from Carson-Newman. He is also known throughout the community as the owner of Burchette Landscaping.
He decided to become a teacher so he could share his knowledge and experience with others. Chad likes teaching the older students, so he teaches 5th and 6th grades math and science at Del Rio Elementary School. Chad states, “I believe that all students can learn despite economic, social or intelligence status.” He uses multimedia sources as well as images (examples) to relate to “real world” examples and applications of what the students learn in class. For example, in math, he uses word problems to show applications for the concepts the students are learning. “If the lessons don’t relate to one or more of the students’ five senses, the students don’t believe the subject matter is important,” he says.
He further explains that a good teacher puts the student first. He/she can balance the ever-changing state of demands by providing students a complete education full of enrichment opportunities. He enjoys teaching at Del Rio Elementary because of the fully capable faculty and their great leader, Mrs. Dellinger. “The teachers work as a team and treat every student equally whether or not they are teaching that particular student during the school year. Del Rio has clear standards and goals which allow the faculty to focus 100% on the student needs,” he explains.
Chad is the father of two children, Kiersten and Connor. They attend First Baptist Church. He enjoys hunting, fishing, traveling and spending time with his family. The Burchettes' pets include sheep and goats.
For his contributions and dedication to the students of Del Rio Elementary School, we proudly sponsor Chad Burchette as the December Bell Ringer.
