Mrs. Zella Ruth Eisenhower, 71, Newport, passed away at her home Monday afternoon, May 24, 2010, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Cocke County, TN, on 27 November 1938, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Helen (Shaver) Carver.
She was educated in local schools and graduated from Cocke County High School in 1956.
She was married to the late Wilbur Eisenhower, who preceded her in death on November 6, 1993.
For many years she was employed by Emerson Electric.
A lifelong supporter of the Cocke County Recreational Department, she will be remembered for her untiring efforts to raise funds for the first scoreboard at Newport City Park and her advocacy for our area's numerous sports teams-especially the football, baseball, and basketball teams with which her sons were associated.
She also enjoyed attending the many activities in which her beloved grandchildren were involved.
She is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law Kenny and Debbie Eisenhower and Brian and Jennifer Eisenhower, three grandchildren Kennie Leigh Eisenhower, Emily Eisenhower, and McKinley Eisenhower, brother and sister-in-law Bud and Peggy Carver, and special aunt and uncle Dean and Polly Ealy, all of Newport.
The family extends a special thank-you to Dr. David Kickliter and nurses Sylvia Ford and April Baxter and the staff of Amedisys.
Funeral services are planned for Wednesday, May 26, 2010, at First Baptist Church at 8:00 p.m. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the church prior to the services.
Burial will be on Thursday, May 27, 2010, in Union Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial donations be made in Zella Ruth's name to Cocke County Relay for Life, 1366 Golf Course Road, Newport, TN 37821.
