Bettie was a long time member of Piney Grove Baptist Church where she served in several capacities from Sunday School teacher to Youth Director and assistant pianist. She retired from the University of Tennessee Medical Center after 30 years of service. Preceded in death by husband, Kenneth Shell; son, Steven Shell; parents, Ernest and Lila Walker; sister, Mary Taylor. Survivors are daughter and son-in-law, Patti and David Cantrell; grandchildren, Christopher Cantrell and Emily and Kevin Bailey; great-granddaughter, Rebecca Bailey; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mildred Zimmerman and Evelyn and Elmer Carr. The family will receive friends 5:00-7:00 pm Wednesday at Weaver's Chapel with the service to follow at 7:00 pm with Rev. Rick Lemons officiating. Family and friends will gather at 10:45 am Thursday at Piney Grove Cemetery for an 11:00 am interment. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to Alzheimer's Tennessee, Inc., 5801 Kingston Pike, Knoxville , TN 37919.
